During case-taking Melanie builds a picture of you as a whole person: what you are experiencing, what makes it better or worse, how you sleep and eat, how you feel, what has happened to you, and your family history. She then spends time on case analysis before selecting a single remedy. This is why two people describing similar difficulties may well be offered quite different remedies.

What do the numbers and letters on my bottle mean?

Those mark the potency: how far the original substance has been diluted and succussed. A higher number means a greater dilution, not a stronger dose in the ordinary sense. The label is effectively a prescription for you personally, which is why it is best not shared or reused for someone else with similar symptoms.

That is useful information rather than a failure. The remedy may need reviewing or changing, the plan may need a different emphasis, and sometimes the most helpful next step is appropriate medical or professional advice. What happens at the initial consultation?

An unhurried conversation of sixty to ninety minutes. We cover what you are experiencing now, your health and family history, significant life experiences, your emotional wellbeing, sleep, diet and routine. Melanie takes detailed notes and asks a great many questions. Afterwards she works on the case analysis, then prescribes a remedy along with a personalised plan of support, which is discussed with you.

Do I need to prepare anything?

Nothing formal. It helps to have a list of any medication and supplements you take, and any recent test results if you have them to hand. Some people find it useful to jot down a rough timeline beforehand. You do not need a tidy story ready. Piecing it together is part of the work.

Will I be examined or diagnosed?

Accepted Answer

No. A consultation is a conversation, not a physical examination, and Melanie does not set out to diagnose or to reinterpret a diagnosis you already have. Where something needs medical investigation, she will encourage you to seek it rather than guess at it.

I get overwhelmed and struggle to remember things. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Bring notes if you have them, and bring a family member or friend if that helps. You decide what to share and how far to go; pauses are welcome and nothing is rushed. It is entirely fine to say you would rather not go into something.

Can my child be seen?

Children can be seen, with a parent or guardian taking part in the conversation. Anything that worries you about a child's health should always be discussed with their doctor too. Homeopathy is not a substitute for medical care for a child who is unwell.

It depends on what you are dealing with and how you respond. Follow-up consultations run thirty to forty-five minutes and are where progress, changes and any new developments are reviewed, and the plan adjusted where appropriate. You will not be pushed into more appointments than you need.
