Listening to your body, mind, heart and soul

Why the four words at the centre of my practice matter, and a simple way to check in with yourself each day.

Body, mind, heart and soul. These four words sit at the centre of my practice because I believe they are deeply connected. How we feel physically affects our thoughts, our emotions and our sense of meaning, and each of those in turn affects the body.

A daily check in

One simple practice I often share is a short daily check in. Find a quiet moment, perhaps with a cup of tea, and ask yourself four questions.

Body: how does my body feel today, and what does it need? Mind: what is occupying my thoughts? Heart: what am I feeling, and can I name it kindly? Soul: what gave me a sense of meaning or joy today?

You do not need to fix anything. The purpose is simply to notice. Over time, many people find this helps them recognise patterns and respond to their own needs a little sooner.

Bringing it to a consultation

If you come to see me, the things you notice can be really valuable to our conversation. They help build a fuller picture of you as a whole person.

And as always, if something you notice worries you, please speak to your GP. Listening to yourself includes knowing when to seek medical advice.
